I think there is a lot of truth to the concept that people have different "currencies" that motivate them and we need to pay attention to what gets each employee's engines revving to maximize their performance. This is hardly a new concept, I learned about it in HR school over 10 years ago. Tamara has just slapped some cutesy new labels with a scientific acronym on old ideas. The old Buick got a new bumper sticker.

I saw Tamara at a Get Motivated Seminar and though I agreed with the basic principles of this concept, there is absolutely no way I'd buy this book after seeing her speak.

First, I was flabbergasted at how Narcissistic she was. She talked about herself ad nauseum and even craftily worked in pictures of herself with as many famous people as possible, proclaiming that she was not name dropping by doing so. Her presence in the pictures served absolutely no purpose - if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. . . well, it probably is name dropping.

Then she painfully pleads for you to go out and help the world (yes, she really did say that) by buying her books (#1 best seller on lots and lots of lists). And don't be selfish by buying only one for yourself, but buy them as gifts to everyone you know - "buy cases of them. " Seriously? Perhaps this is how she got on the best seller list. People were applauding this embarrassing act of begging and I felt like I was one of the few not drinking the Kool Aid.

I was then teletransported to another dimension and I'm suddenly at a Christian Convention. A big old Jesus-fest. To the point that she asks us (if we want to to be anything in this world and not go to hell thereafter) to each silently affirm that we each need Jesus in our hearts and need to reconnect with our love for Him.

Huh? I check my ticket and it is still proclaiming to be a business seminar. I look at my employee, who is Jewish, and she is staring painstakingly at the floor. I mouth, "I'm SO Sorry" and she gives me an uncomfortable nod.

It made me pretty angry that at a business seminar with nationally acclaimed speakers, she would be so presumptive as to assume that the 10,000 people in the room not only agree with her beliefs, but cares what she thinks on the topic. It was a total insult to the professionals who follow other faiths or belief systems and mind their own business about it. No wonder half the world thinks we're arrogant and disrespectful of their religious beliefs.

If you ask me, Tamara is trying to make a buck off an old idea and is playing the religion card to boost sales.

Another motivational book, and I can't get enough of them. I find them all very entertaining, and this one especially made me want to get up and "get motivated". It was an easy, fun read. I would recommend it to everyone that can get inspired fairly easy. The AlchemistFrom The Ruins: Refugee, Daughter, American SoldierThe Daily Disciplines of Leadership: How to Improve Student Achievement, Staff Motivation, and Personal Organization

I really wanted to like this book, but there was so much description of what the author was going to tell us, that if you cut those parts out, the book would have been 3 chapters.
I liken it to this: Your spouse suggests going out for breakfast. He tells you 'first we'll put our sneakers on, then we'll grab our coats, then we'll take our wallets, then we'll walk out to the car, then we'll open the car door. '
This (obviously) drove me crazy.
While I respect everything Tamara has been thru, this book just isn't for me.
I fit many of the 'motivational' DNA types, and she interchanged the types so often, I found myself confused.
Also, if you purchase as a Kindle book, you don't have a 'code' to access her 'free' online gifts.
The old classics of Think and Grow Rich and The Power of Positive Thinking are just as inspiring.

For the last twelve years I've gone to church, come home, watched tv, eaten food, slept, did my business, mowed the lawn, answered telephone calls, kept up correspondence with my children and my grand children, remembered birthday's, fed my dog, fed the chickens, petted the chickens, killed the chickens, plowed a field, raised some corn, fed a livestock, kept my farm alive, lived alone, battled depression, overcome alcoholism - twice, written letters to editors, enjoyed professional wrestling, attempted a marathon, lowered my cholesterol, taken a punch, missed my dead wife, married again, tried to have a child, failed, succeeded, failed again, battled more depression, divorced, received a court order, avoided jail time, learned the law, won back my rights, flew a plane, learned to swim, voted democrat, apologized to the native Americans, and successfully learned the difference between right and wrong. . . but despite that I never had the get up and go I sorely needed, I didn't have the extra oomph. Could you say I needed motivation? Yeah, I guess you could. Though not if you were one of those fellas that moves from town to town looking for work in exchange for three squares and a roof, especially if you had one of those long necks that always needs stranglin' - but yeah I lacked motivation. But those days are gone. Thanks to this book and a successful heart transplant i feel i got twelve more years left till I'm reunited with my no longer alive wife. This book has accelerated my DNA to superhuman levels. I'm not saying I'm gonna be successful in my attempts to fly, but I'm gonna do it before you are. . . unless you read the book.

Seriously, you can judge a book by its cover. Just look at the body language. Ms. Lowe is someone that's going to judge you if you are not motivated. She's perky, and perky people are not realists. They either never have anything wrong going on in their lives, or they're liars. Plus, I don't know if she's going to sell me real estate or a Watchtower.
